Start moving forward with peace, purpose, and even joy.
Join Life After Loss Academy and learn how to:
remain calm and grounded in an uncertain world
move through difficult grief feelings and release painful emotions
integrate your losses into your life in a way that’s meaningful for you
build fulfilling, grief-inclusive relationships with friends, family, and coworkers
look forward to a future that feels hopeful and possible, even with grief in tow
You’re a grieving person ready to return to life after loss.
You’ve seen others who’ve endured massive grief and pain come out the other side happy, fulfilled, purposeful, and (somehow!!!) at peace with everything that’s happened to them.
You know at the very core of your being that’s what you want to feel.
Grounded. Peaceful. Hopeful. Purposeful. And perhaps… even joyful.
There’s just one problem:
How the heck do you get THERE from where you are right now?
See if this sounds like you:
You feel lost and disoriented, like a broken compass or a boat adrift in the middle of the ocean. Your days and nights are filled with unbearable emptiness, loneliness, heartache, and despair.
You know you must find a way to survive, but you’re heartbroken by the thought of a future without your person(s). You worry that you’ll never be happy again and fear every future memory will be tainted with the pain of grief.
You feel stifled and trapped, like a captive in the cage of a cruel oppressor. You’re afraid of what will happen if you don’t get grief “right.”
You feel like everything is uncertain, like the ground is falling away from under you all the time. You don’t trust yourself to make decisions, do your job, or show up as the person you were before loss.
You feel like grief has broken you beyond all repair and made you “damaged goods.” You feel like you can’t trust other people with your pain, but simultaneously ache for a community that “gets it.”
You’ve lost connection to yourself or your loved ones and aren’t sure how to tune back in.
Here’s the truth: You have everything you need to live a rich, happy life after loss. You just need a roadmap to get you there.
Let me explain…
Just imagine…
✔︎ Waking up each day knowing you have the tools to cope with waves of grief as they come. You can navigate uncertainty and anxiety with compassion, knowing you can survive whatever comes your way.
✔︎ Looking into the mirror and seeing yourself as whole and unbroken.
✔︎ Experiencing genuine happiness and peace that includes remembering your person(s) who died. You invent personal, creative, consistent ways to stay connected to your person(s) and honor their impact on your life.
✔︎ Feeling centered, calm, and clear about who you are and where you’d like to go next. You trust yourself to make solid decisions, aligned with what you and your grief need to heal.
✔︎ Feeling truly seen, supported, known, and loved by a group of grievers just like you. You set kind—but firm—boundaries with your friends, family, and coworkers. Every relationship in your life honors your losses.
✔︎ Seeing grief as a companion, a friend, a protector, a teacher, and a guide.
INTRODUCING:
Life After Loss Academy:
A complete 5-step program + community that teaches you how to get unlost and unstuck, move forward without forgetting your loved ones, and set compassionate boundaries with family, friends, and coworkers.
In this course, I’ll show you exactly how to:
✔︎ Stabilize your heart and mind through rituals and connection to your person(s) who died
✔︎ Effectively grieve the person you used to be and the future life you can no longer live
✔︎ Weave your losses—and your loved ones—into the fabric of your daily life
✔︎ Set compassionate (but firm!) boundaries with friends, family, partners, and coworkers
✔︎ Create a rich, meaningful, and yes, even JOYFUL! relationship with grief
While this is not easy work, it is powerful. And doing it will change your life.
Before we go any further, let’s make one thing clear.
This ain’t therapy.
And it sure as hell isn’t a gussied-up grief journal.
Life After Loss Academy is an all-inclusive life after loss roadmap.
Part classroom, part community, part real-world, part soul-search—it’s the place you go when you’re ready to discover who loss has made you, and how powerful life can be when you integrate grief into your life.
You’ll laugh… you’ll cry… but most important of all, your relationship with grief will change for the better.
The secret formula? My 5-Step GRIEF Method that guides you through everything from how to get grounded—even when life is scary and uncertain—to how to build a life that honors your losses and your desire to feel purposeful, happy, and full of joy.
Here’s how it works:
GROUND
Center yourself through rituals and routines personalized to you, your loss(es), and what helps you feel safe in an uncertain world. No more feeling untethered and unanchored in your own home!
RELEASE
Meaningfully grieve and release the person you used to be and the life you thought you would live, including hopes, dreams, expectations, and identities. Allow yourself to cry, scream, and let out big, messy emotions in the safety of other grievers. (And rinse/repeat as often as you need to.)
INTEGRATE
Use mindful self-compassion and a touch of humor to weave your losses and the people you love into your life. Because “moving forward” does NOT mean forgetting! Find ways to measure your growth over time… because you ARE growing.
ESTABLISH
Identify pain points in your friendships and relationships and establish boundaries that honor your grief. Show up at work, school, home, or with friends without having to put on a happy face; experience the relief of getting to take your grief everywhere with you.
FOSTER
Enter into a long-term relationship with grief and envision a future where grief is your collaborator, protector, and friend. No more wasting energy fighting your grief or feeling like you’re at grief’s mercy. Bring on the peace and joy!
You could take my word for it, but you don’t have to.

I was a mess after my adult child's suicide. I had completely shut myself off from everyone—my family, friends, and community. Shelby listened with compassion and empathy. She spoke to each one of our hearts. Through each lesson, we unpeeled layers of the onion and worked to craft our new lives. If you are hesitating, please don’t. It is a life-changing experience where you learn about yourself and learn to live with grief as a friend.

This course was more than I could have ever imagined. Through Shelby's vulnerability and transparency in sharing about her own losses, as well as the sharing of my cohort, I recognized that grief is NOT my enemy, but a friend that invites me to take a deep dive into my heart and soul. The exercises and homework that Shelby has so creatively crafted prompted me to examine the depth of my grief and embrace what grief was trying to show me and teach me. I see grief differently now—not as my enemy but as my friend. Thank you Shelby for giving me permission to grieve. It's been a sacred and holy journey for me, one that has helped put this broken heart back together.
— Tammy, Texas, U.S.
But wait. Have we officially met?
Hi. I’m Shelby Forsythia.
I’m an Intuitive Grief Guide and the author of two books including Your Grief, Your Way, and Permission to Grieve. Since 2016, I’ve been helping people come back to life after death, divorce, diagnosis, and other major losses.
After my mother’s sudden death in 2013, I began calling myself a “student of grief,” and flung myself headlong into the study and practice—yes, practice!—of returning to life after loss. Through years of reading, listening, experimenting, and coaching, I took the worst thing that ever happened to me and transformed it into a life and a career that I love.
I now feel…
✔︎ deeply in tune with myself and my body
✔︎ radically trusting and loving in a world “where anything can happen”
✔︎ consistently connected to the memory of my mother
✔︎ equipped to handle any future losses that come my way (and believe me, there have been MANY)
I used to think that loss broke me and made everything I wanted—from joy to stability—impossible to achieve. What I know now is that grief is a divine invitation to recognize the depth and the preciousness of life… and to build a good life because of grief—not in spite of it.
I invite you to join me. ♥︎

I designed Life After Loss Academy to be an affordable way to access tools, community, and live support from me after devastating loss. I normally charge $1,500 for six sessions of 1:1 coaching. No matter which payment option you choose for Life After Loss Academy, you’ll get LIFETIME access to the course, the community, and live support from me for less than that.
That being said, I wholeheartedly understand that grief is a financial game-changer, especially for folks already marginalized by systemic inequality and structural racism, ableism, and heteronormativity.
If you are a BIPOC griever, an LGBTQIA+ griever, a disabled griever, or a grieving person facing financial hardship, please take 18% off your Life After Loss Academy enrollment with the code: DAISY18
This is a no-questions-asked, nothing-to-prove honor system, and it applies to whichever payment option you choose. Your discount is applied immediately upon checkout. I trust you to know what you can afford right now in your grief.
As of right now, the vast majority of people—including myself—are forced to financially participate in capitalism, a system inherently designed to exploit (which makes owning a heart-centered, service-oriented grief business especially uncomfortable and sticky). I hope you’ll trust that I charge what I need to provide for all of Life After Loss Academy’s students and tend to myself as a grief guide, a fellow griever, and a human living in today’s wild world.
And in case you’re wondering how Life After Loss Academy compares to other grief support programs out there…
Other Programs:
✗ Are past-oriented keeping you processing what happened instead of moving forward
✗ Are focused on overall mental health—not loss—glossing over grief instead of giving it the deep dive it deserves
✗ Train grief professionals—not grievers leaving you to fend for yourself
✗ Are live and in-person forcing you to show up on their time in their space
✗ Offer little or no support selling you a workbook or a slide deck to wade through on your own
✗ Have limited-time access pressuring you to complete lessons on their schedule, not yours
✗ Include complicated guarantees requiring you to answer a million questions before you get your money back
Life After Loss Academy:
✔︎ Is future-oriented guiding you through your loss and towards a lifetime partnership with grief
✔︎ Is focused exclusively on loss helping you process the pain of grief and uncover how you uniquely mourn
✔︎ Guides grievers allowing you, whether or not you have a master’s or a doctorate, to access meaningful support
✔︎ Is entirely online letting you do grief in your own way on your own time
✔︎ Offers live and group support connecting you with heaps of community and personalized coaching
✔︎ Gives you lifetime access allowing you to visit and revisit course material and community as new losses surface
✔︎ Has a 100% hassle-free money-back guarantee protecting you and your money from a financial hostage situation—more on that below!
✔︎ Is entirely created with your grief and your future in mind helping you know that whatever or whoever you’ve lost, someone (me, Shelby!) is in your corner and on your side

Shelby's book and podcast have been a crucial support in my life following a devastating loss, so I was excited to see that she was offering this course. It has been so helpful in ways that I could not have imagined. I feel like something important has shifted in me to allow me to live with grief in a more honest and positive way that I really didn't think was possible before.

Profoundly healing. The course is both approachable and challenging. The exercises are deeply engaging, but practical and easy to respond to. This, combined with Shelby's deep compassion, got me started on the road to healing.

Still here? Beautiful.
I made you something:
Life After Loss Academy is for you if…
✔︎ You want to feel peace, joy, happiness, and purpose without forgetting your loss(es) or your person(s) who died
✔︎ You want to stop fighting with grief and start collaborating with it
✔︎ You want to discover tools and coping strategies that work for YOU and your unique loss experience
✔︎ You want to connect to a community of like-minded grievers and be supported as you live life after loss
✔︎ You want to develop greater self-compassion so you can navigate anxiety and uncertainty without feeling broken
✔︎ You want to build deep, grief-honoring friendships that let you be 100% yourself at work, school, and home
Life After Loss Academy is NOT for you if…
✗ You’re not ready to do the hard work / “heart work” of examining your loss(es), building new rituals, setting firm boundaries, and exploring your emotions*
✗ You want to grieve alone—at least for now—and don’t have space to support or be supported by a community of other grievers*
✗ You’re committed to seeing grief as an enemy or an oppressor and can’t imagine a future where you and grief exist together in harmony
✗ You aren’t interested in expanding your grief knowledge or you’re determined to see grief through a singular lens (For example, The Five Stages or strict religious teachings)
✗ You want to keep using perfectionism, self-blame, shame, and guilt to process your loss(es)
✗ You have a mental illness that requires greater intervention and care than this course can offer**
*P.S. I know grief is exhausting. Some grievers aren’t physically, emotionally, mentally, or spiritually ready to do the hard work / “heart work” of a course like Life After Loss Academy. Trust your intuition, and when in doubt, ask your doctor, therapist, or other trusted professional or confidant for their thoughts on enrolling in this course. Life After Loss Academy will be here when you’re ready. ♥︎
**P.P.S. This is the part where I let you know that I am not a licensed therapist or mental health provider. I cannot diagnose, medicate, or offer advice for any mental illness including but not limited to anxiety, depression, or PTSD. If you are experiencing these or any other conditions alongside your grief, please seek professional support such as therapy, trauma-informed counseling, bodywork, spiritual guidance, or medication.
FAQ
-
Yes. Life After Loss Academy acknowledges that grief includes both death and non-death losses. (That’s why it’s called Life After Loss Academy, not Life After Death Academy!) Past students have followed its framework to grieve:
- divorce / breakup
- major diagnosis
- estrangement
- separation from religious community
- pet loss
- financial loss
- a geographic move or symbolic loss of home
- “felt” losses such as loss of identity, innocence, safety, creativity, and spirit / connection to the Divine. -
Past students have enrolled at time frames ranging from a few months after a devastating loss to years down the road. No matter how long it’s been since your loss(es), LALA’s framework is designed to help you reorient to the world and form a lifelong relationship with grief.
-
Absolutely. Even if your loss hasn’t happened yet (for example a terminal diagnosis, pending divorce, or upcoming move), you can still use the teachings in LALA. You may have to do a little more mental legwork to apply them to your unique situation, but don’t let that stop you from enrolling! There is major benefit in practicing my GRIEF method as you navigate a pending loss or loss-in-progress.
-
Because we sometimes explore adult themes (drug/alcohol use, sex and sexuality, and so on) and use adult language to describe grief (no censored swearing here!), LALA is intended for people 18 years and older.
-
Two reasons:
1) Therapy is generally past-oriented, helping you process what happened and make sense of it now in the present. Life After Loss Academy is predominantly future-oriented, considering where you’d like to go and providing you with the roadmap you need to get there. Yes, we’ll talk about the past, but my real focus is where you want to end up.2) Grief is just one component of the therapy umbrella. Most grief counselors receive a master's degree in community counseling, mental health counseling, or family counseling, and specific coursework on grief, at least in the United States, is sadly optional or nonexistent. [SOURCE] When you enroll in Life After Loss Academy, you get a deep dive into grief and only grief. My sole mission as your guide is to help you name and process your losses and develop a lifetime partnership with grief.
Please know, I have absolutely nothing against therapy and have employed it myself to mourn many types of losses. But LALA is not therapy; it was never designed to be. It makes a wonderful compliment to therapy—if you’re already in it—and an affordable alternative if you’re interested in receiving laser-focused support for grief and loss.
-
The short answer is no. The long answer is that—at this time—Facebook continues to be the best platform for community hosting that includes support via posts, photos, comments, and live calls + replays. I’m continuing to research alternatives.
However, some LALA students have chosen to create anonymous Facebook accounts using a fake name and a photo of a favorite TV character or pet in order to join the community and live calls. If this is something you’d like to do, just email me after you enroll with your anonymous Facebook name and I’ll be sure to approve your request to join the group.
-
Just like grief, “completing” life after loss has no timeline. Your experience with LALA will depend on what other tools and practices you’ve used to navigate grief thus far, how deeply you engage with the homework and live calls, and how much you’re able to hold focus and attention (because grief brain is REAL, y’all!). That being said, most students start feeling better after completing the first module, GROUND, and most students finish the course anywhere between two and six months.
Keep in mind, that your goal is not to make it to the end of the course, but to build a lifetime partnership with grief. This course is designed to revisit again and again as new losses inevitably surface in your life.
-
Both! The course modules, lessons, workshops, and mini-courses are recorded so you can learn at your own pace on your own time.
But I totally get that grief is a living thing, and it needs to be witnessed and held in the company of others. That’s why every week, I show up in the LALA private Facebook group for a “Deep Dive in 45” coaching call. I’ll take your questions and address your unique grief as we come back to life after loss together.
You can also use the Facebook group as a sounding board for suggestions and to commemorate your milestones and griefiversaries as they arise.
-
Video material—including course lessons, workshops, meditations, and live coaching calls—includes auto-generated closed captioning. All workbooks and digital downloads are available as PDFs.
Video, photo, audio, and written materials shared by students in the LALA Facebook Group may not be accessible and are subject to the accessibility measures Facebook has in place.

-
I get that grief is hard, and grief is also expensive. That’s why I offer three options for payment including a one-time payment, a 6 month payment plan, and a 12-month payment plan.
That being said, I wholeheartedly understand that grief is a financial game-changer, especially for folks already marginalized by systemic inequality and structural racism, ableism, and heteronormativity.

As soon as you enroll, you’ll be sent a welcome email to access Life After Loss Academy. The welcome lessons, all bonuses, and the first module, GROUND, are available to you, and you can start right away. The remaining four modules (RELEASE, INTEGRATE, ESTABLISH, and FOSTER) will be released one at a time every 14 days.
Inside the Welcome lesson, you’ll find your invitation to join the private LALA Facebook group. Take a moment to introduce yourself, share your loss story, and be welcomed by your fellow students. I’ll see you soon during our next “Deep Dive in 45” coaching call.
It’s possible to love the life loss forced you live.
One last word from LALA students:
★★★★★
This course was amazing. With so many unknowns in 2020, it provided stability. The journaling prompts were helpful in exploring my own experiences and in realizing how far I have come and what I can do. I’ve taken my power back in so many facets. Grief is a part of who I am. Acknowledging and welcoming all aspects of grief into my life have made me more comfortable with vulnerability, accepting who I am now, and who I am becoming.
- Julia, Illinois, U.S.
Are you still reading? I admire your thoroughness! :)
Here’s two things I need you to know about Life After Loss Academy:
However your grief looks right now, whatever loss(es) you’re reeling from…
You are not alone
It doesn’t have to be this way
It is devastating, heart-wrenching, and flat-out painful that neither you nor I can go back and undo what’s already happened. As much as my heart aches for you, and as much as I desperately want to, I cannot snap my fingers and magically poof your life before loss back into existence.
I know right now, it probably feels like you can’t possibly do the hard work / “heart work” of grief. And yet you know that you must.
I hear you.
I have been—in my own way—stranded on a “grief planet” that’s eerily similar to the one you’re living on right now. It’s empty. It’s dark. It’s lonely. And god-oh-god does it hurt.
I see you. And you are not alone.
If you had told me after my mom died that I would someday find other grievers to connect with and have—much less create!—a proven framework for finding joy again, I would’ve said, “Fuck off!” and slammed the door in your face.
With how lost I felt, how disconnected I was, and how much I emotionally and mentally had to carry, I could not even BEGIN to imagine a future beyond the heartbreak that pummeled me every morning when I opened my eyes.
In following this powerful roadmap over and over again, my life with grief changed.
I made a home on this strange planet. I befriended my grief. And I realized that there are literally millions of other grievers like me floating around on their own little lonely grief planets.
Looking for a way back. Looking for each other.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
You don’t have to wake up every morning dreading the sheer fact that you’re alive in a world without your person(s) present.
You don’t have to feel alone all the time.
You don’t have to remain disconnected from your soul, your spirit, or whatever force you believe to be the truest, deepest part of you.
You don’t have to put on a happy face and perform in relationships that make you feel impossible to love.
You don’t have to abandon your person(s), your loss(es), or your memories in order to move forward.
You don’t have to feel crazy or broken because of your grief.
If I could hug you through the screen right now, I totally would.
The life you want, the one where you get to honor your heartbreak and experience joy, happiness, and peace again…
The one where you innately trust yourself to come to your aid when life gets uncertain and grief gets loud…
The one where you form rich, lasting friendships and set kind—but firm—boundaries at work and at home…
The one where you dismantle grief’s cage and collaborate with it to build a beautiful, sacred shelter for both of you to share…
The one where you know that grief makes you more whole, not broken…
That life IS possible.
And you’re this close to making it happen.
Through years of working with grieving clients facing all kinds of losses, I’ve weeded through the noise and found the pattern—the framework that gets you from here to there: the life you want to live with grief by your side.
I’ve used it on myself (and returned to it with fresh losses), but more importantly, I’ve shared it with others. And let me tell you, it works.
I created Life After Loss Academy to help you find hope, find community, and find your way again after devastating loss.
Because the very worst thing that happened to you is not the end of you. It is a launchpad. A guiding star. A homing call. A vital thread that pulls you toward the life you want to live next:
Where you want to go.
Who you want to be.
How you want to honor your grief through all of it.
I won’t deny that the Universe as you know it has ended, sucked into the black hole of loss.
But consider this: a new solar system, centered around your heart and your grief, is already making its way into your orbit.
If you’re looking for a sign: This. Is. It.
Let’s get started.
With love,
♥︎ Shelby
